We're Back

We just got back from our beach trip to the Outer Banks. I never had a chance to post before leaving since we were so busy!

We were one of seven families that went camping. We spent most of our days at the beach, but also took some time at the pool as well. Everything went great until the trip home. Matt and I drove seperately since he was pulling the camper with the truck and I had all the kids and baby "stuff" with me. When we were in the middle of no where his truck decided to die. No cell phone service......middle of no where. Our friends, who had gotten ahead of us, started to worry and turned around. Here I am in the mini with a car full and a soon to be four month old for an hour or more. The guys were getting eaten by horseflies and the kids are getting bored. What should have been a 2 hour ride home turned into a 7 hour ride home. On a positive note, no one was hurt and we really had a great vacation. Oh and he got the truck back today. No major problems. Thank goodness!

Before the trip home, we decided to stop at Jockey's Ridge. It is pretty sad that my husband grew up in the area and my children have never stepped foot onto the giant dunes until yesterday. They had a blast! I didn't think I was going to make it up the dune with the baby strapped to my front, but I did. Here are some pictures. I'll post more of our vacation later. I have a lot of Mattie and all her first experiences.

Here are the kids before the walk up the dune.

Going up.....although it looks kind of flat.

The kids loved going up and down the dune. You could see the ocean and the sound while standing at the top.

Here is Mattie. Looking cool in her shades.

What great pics! Love the glasses, too! That dune is huge! Looked like you were in the desert not at the beach!

Thanks RK & Shannon! I think she looks so cute in the glasses.

It actually feels like the desert...not that I've been to one. The wind blows the sand all around and the sand is HOT. That was just one of the dunes. There are many. When I was a kid they seemed much larger. Over the years, I think they shift. We couldn't decide if they are smaller or they just seemed even bigger as a kid.

Glad you made it back home safely; although that does sound like a very long day when it should have been a 2 hr trip!

Oh my goodness!!! I love the OBX! I have been 18 times since I was 13 in 1990. It's so far away from us (about 10 hours if you drive fast and don't stop) but it's the best beach EVER!!
