On Saturday, a friend of mine and myself got together to make our first round of pillowcases. We originally got the idea from an organization called Conkerr Cancer. This is a wonderful organization. You basically just make these bright and fun pillowcases for children with cancer. Our Joyful Stitchers Ministry is going to meet tomorrow to learn how to make the pillowcases. It is our hope to put a little extra smile on their faces during the difficult trials of their lives. So I was looking for a local drop off for our pillowcases. They only have 2 locations in NC and we were really hoping to possibly do something locally. We may branch out later but for now I think we need to just get our feet wet. So I contacted our children's hospital locally and they are very excited about our project. She even said that she would let us take a tour of the children's hospital on the day of our first drop-off. I am so excited and can't wait to start making more pillowcases!

Very cool project, Kim! I can imagine the smiles on the faces of those kiddos... priceless.
What a very sweet thing to do! Darling fabrics!
I love it. Looking good.
what a great thing to do. these look great.
That's great! I'm sure the kids will love getting a new special pillowcase.
When Sam broke her arm at 2 years of age she got a little stuffed bear that someone made. She still loves that thing!
Love all the colorful fabric.
I love that you are making the pillowcases. As one that spent so much time in the hospital, I can't think of a better item to make and donate than the pillow cases. Kristen received one of the pillowcases from "conkerr cancer" It's an amazing program.
I like your pillowcases:)
These are fantastic. Love the colors. My kids have always loved having special pillowcases.
I came across your blog through another that I follow. I have a little girly with special needs as well (although hers is not down syndrome). We have lots of dr. appts at the local children's hospital, and she often gets stuffed animals, bath toys, books and other items that have been donated. They mean so much to me on long days, and are way better than if she got a sucker for every visit! Thanks for what you do.

What a wonderful thing you are doing. I know first hand how children with cancer get so excited to receive gifts. Any kind of gifts. Carly has soooo many blankets, quilts, afghans, stuffed animals, dolls, toys and so on. All brought such smiles to her little face during such a trying time in her life.
